Guo Yu is a multidisciplinary graphic designer and visual creator based in London and Shanghai, specialising in digital media, image-making, editorial and printing. She brings the essence of daily life experiences into her work. Her work has previously been invited to contribute to a new publication by SendPoints.

Overpackaged Store

My design inspiration generally comes from life, documenting unusual designs around me. Over-packaging has always been an unresolved issue in the Chinese market, and according to the Chinese government, most people buy over-packaged products due to a lack of awareness. Have you ever bought ‘葡萄庄精品红酒 Vineyard Boutique Wine,’ ‘抽屉月饼礼盒 Drawer Mooncake Gift Box,’ or ‘皇家草莓 Royal Strawberry’ in China? These fancy names and layers of packaging are only ¥88. I hope this project helps you identify over-packaged products in China, and that you find some humorous answers.

Digital Canvas

Digital Canvas is a collaborative project, directed and created by Eunjoo Yang and myself. We share similar art backgrounds, having transitioned from fine art to graphic and media design in our first year of university. The challenges we faced and the change in our creative process were not only about transforming paint mixing and brushstrokes into software toolbars, but also about incorporating our personal experiences and ways of seeing into our work. This canvas, which should have been covered with paint, is now adorned with computer-edited digital images.
