Video Game Fusion: Redesigning Characters in Alternate Styles
In ‘Game Fusion’, I undertook the challenge of reimagining characters from different video games in alternative visual styles, with the aim of enhancing my drawing skills while exploring the diversity of gaming aesthetics. I specifically selected the Alchemy Cookie Character from Cookie Run: OvenBreak and transformed her using the visual style of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Carefully adapting her design through a series of experimental drawings where I explored silhouette, clothing, accessories, and colour to seamlessly fit into the charming world of Animal Crossing, this project was not only a creative endeavour but also a valuable opportunity to master various art styles and gain insights into the intricacies of game design.
Seeking to delve deeper into the Animal Crossing style, I explored various outfit designs inspired by the game. This study aimed to expand my understanding of the Animal Crossing aesthetic and helped me integrate these styles into my character design.
Realising the importance of Alchemy Cookie’s beret hat, a key aspect of her design, I aimed to recreate it faithfully within the Animal Crossing style. I conducted a drawing experiment, exploring different hat styles to find the most accurate and fitting design for her character.
Drawing inspiration from key elements of Alchemy Cookie’s design, her inquisitive stance, beret and potion beaker, I integrated these features into the visual style of Animal Crossing characters through exploration of silhouettes, character-specific outfits and accessories.
Final linework design of Alchemy Cookie in Animal Crossing Style. This rendition integrates key elements of her original cookie design (silhouette, beret and position beaker) into the aesthetic of Animal Crossing, ensuring an accurate portrayal of the character in this new style.
This image displays the original Alchemy Cookie design on the left, alongside its new interpretation in the Animal Crossing style on the right. Using a similar colour palette and keeping key elements allowed me to keep essences of the original while creating a new visual style.
