Junyi Chen

I’m Chen Junyi.

In past creations, I’ve always been deeply fascinated with perceptions, cognitions, and experiences that go beyond the ordinary. I’m passionate about exploring spaces abandoned in the human world, those filled with historical ruins. I also love constructing environments like those found in science fiction and horror novels – places with Escher-like doors, entrances, and passages, connecting and recreating landscapes full of the unknown.

This is because I want my work, through perceiving these architectural relics ‘should be gone but still existing’. It’s not just about reproducing an aesthetic experience but also reflecting on those invisible yet dynamic forces that govern our lives and world.

Urban Micro-Ecology

This project explores the microcosmic ecology of London’s urban ecology. To observe and explore some of the corners of the city that no one has ever seen before. These growths exist in stone cracks, in corners of walls, in crevices of stone tiles or around utility poles.

There is always some exuberant life in these unobtrusive places. Through this project, I wanted to develop and explore these micro-ecological and human connections.

Skin Disease Discrimination

This project started when I was affected by a skin disease in my childhood and received a lot of discrimination and ridicule from the outside world. Even nowadays, this kind of discrimination is still very common. Judging a person’s morality in terms of illness and physical appearance is fraught with prejudice. A person’s morality lies in the impact of his or her behavioural patterns on society or others, not in the cause of the disease. Even some dermatological discrimination is far more damaging to a patient’s mental state than the negative physical effects of the skin disease itself.

I would like to talk about the social phenomenon of dermatological discrimination through my personal experience. I would like to present the main arguments for stopping dermatological discrimination.
