Luisa Felicia Clauss

Hi, I am Luisa Felicia, a London-based multidisciplinary artist, (3D) designer and photographer.

My practice sits at the intersection of art & design. Due to my background in painting and hands-on creation, as well as my passion for (analogue) photography, I am drawn to both physical and digital media and mixing them to create unusual conceptual designs. I am always aiming to evoke an emotive connection with the viewer and my work is inspired by playful experimentation, nature, and human interaction. My creative problem-solving and communication skills, empathy and ability to also apply more traditional graphic design skills allow me to be a versatile, well-rounded creative. I can adapt to a variety of briefs, from 2D to 3D, from branding and identity to social causes, art direction and many more.

In my 3D designs, I merge my passion for art, sculpture, motion design, storytelling, exploration and music to create impactful, often abstract and surreal visuals that play with the subconscious and perception.

Desire to Waste

For this brief, I was tasked with creating a fictional brand experience comprising several deliverables for an exhibition, conference and event series called ‘Desire to Waste’ at the V&A museum in London. I created a mix of still and animated posters, banners, social media content etc.

Thematically the ‘Desire to Waste’ exhibition investigates the unhealthy relationship between our insatiable desire to consume and buy and its waste – and harmful consequences. In my project, I play with abstraction, symbolism, the grotesque, and the interplay of hiding and revealing.

I depict desire as large, abstract and shiny sculptures that attract us – but simultaneously hide, cage and distract us from the underlying truth within: waste. Ultimately the aim of this exhibition and the event speakers would be to change human behaviour and our perspective on consumption and waste. To reinforce this positive message, I altered the slogan in some of my animations and my 3D print to “Desire to Change”.

UNFOLD – US

The aim of this brief called ‘Us’ was to communicate an aspect of the human existence that holds significance to me.

I based my project around the London-based club called Fold, which hosts daytime rave events on Sundays called Unfold. Through my animations, I aimed to capture the unique, inclusive, liberating, and energetic atmosphere of Unfold, which serves as a safe queer space where individuals are free to express their identity, gender, and sexuality. The focus of my project is translating the ‘unfolding’ feeling of reaching a trance-like, meditative state through dancing and dissolving the sense of self in music.

Translucency

In my first final year project, I aimed to enhance my 3D skills and prepare for future projects.

I freely explored my keyword ‘Translucency’ – “the quality of allowing light to pass through” – and used analogue/physical and digital experimentation as inspiration for my 3D designs. During this project, among other things, I learned more about 3D materials, camera and render settings, lighting, physics and particle simulation, animation, 3D sculpting/modelling, 3D scanning and 3D printing.
