Vama Sharma

Vama is a South Asian graphic designer and student based in London. Her work is media agnostic and heavily centred around working with people, identity and culture. In particular, she is eager to work in the fields of branding, research and brand communications. She is inspired by research led projects that are driven by social purpose. She is motivated by working on projects revolving around social, cultural and climate issues and hopes to start relevant conversations through design.

Jazz night

This project was for a unit that helped us narrow down our specialisations. Interested in branding, I wanted to rebrand a jazz bar in East London. Jazz bars in London are a very personal topic for me because of my love for music. The project was a rebrand focusing on a modern identity, artist collaborations and social media to help Night Tales Loft gain more reach amongst its audience across London.

Did you read that online?

This project explores the idea of social media echo chambers and how they promote political polarisation. The work follows an experiment I conducted that recorded content over 15 days from 2 Instagram accounts to see how content correlated with the hashtags and people it was following.

The outcome was a Figma project that displayed the results of this experiment in the form of data visualisation. I wanted to use a greyscale colour palette contrasting with the visuals of emojis as a symbol for social media. The data was also visualised using emojis to add irony to the whole concept.

The Mind Checkpoint

The Mind Checkpoint is a project for the Mind charity to encourage Gen Z to start conversations around mental health. The project is focused on the simple idea of a checkpoint. It reminds people to take a minute away from their hectic, busy schedules to check in on someone or themselves. The main visual is inspired by an abstract illustration of a checkpoint with a hand touching the centre or in this case, checking into the point.

The three main ways I want to capture the attention of Gen Z is through posters, a collaboration with Mind charity shops and social media. These three are carefully chosen with the intention of getting Gen Z interested in the campaign.
